A Birthday Cruise to Mexico 🎂🚢 🇲🇽
We gifted my mom a cruise to celebrate her birthday in Mexico, where we explored Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta.
¡Hola amigos, viajeros, y cumpleaños de febrero!
Hello friends, travelers, and February birthdays!
We gifted my mom a cruise to celebrate her birthday in Mexico. We visited Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán, and Puerto Vallarta. It was an incredible journey, where we respected and honored the rich culture, history, and warmth of the Mexican people. I did my best to build bridges of understanding and friendship.
I left behind the damp, snowy, and freezing forecast in Oregon (dipping to 20 degrees), welcomed the warm and sunny weather in Mexico (from 75 to 85 degrees), and enjoyed the refreshing sea breezes of the Pacific onboard the Discovery Princess.
Highlights from the Deck 🌅🏈🏊♂️
Sailing into the Pacific Ocean at sunset on our first night was spectacular. Watching the Super Bowl on deck under the stars, swimming and relaxing by the pool, and enjoying the many onboard experiences made for an unforgettable beginning of our journey. We enjoyed delicious meals, and deserts, and explored the ship’s entertainment and fun from Irish music in the pub to Rock Opera in the theater and this was only the beginning.
Visiting Three Ports in Mexico 🇲🇽 🌮🏝️
Cabo San Lucas: Cabo wasn't just about breathtaking beaches and luxury resorts; it was also rich in cultural history. We visited San José del Cabo's Art District, where local and international art thrives. We stopped by the Mission San José del Cabo Church, founded in 1730. We wandered through Plaza Mijares, surrounded by artisan shops with handmade jewelry, pottery, and textiles. And of course, delicious fish tacos.
Mazatlán: Known as the “Pearl of the Pacific,” Mazatlán combined historical charm with coastal beauty. We began at Centro Histórico, shopping at the market, visited the Museo, walked along the coast, had a great lunch on the beach, and a taxi tour of all the sights.
Puerto Vallarta: We explored the Old Town (Zona Romántica) and visited the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, an iconic church with a crown-shaped tower. We strolled through Isla Cuale Market and discovered handcrafted goods. We walked along the Malecon, a scenic boardwalk, searched for pelicans, parrots, and crocs, and I swam in the Pacific.
A Journey Filled with Precious Moments 🎂❤️📚
Our final days at sea were a perfect blend of relaxation and celebration: lounging by the swimming pool, reading books, and stargazing on the deck. I made it a priority to exercise as much as possible since the delicious onboard cuisine made it challenging to fit into my suit. The highlight was my mom's birthday dinner. We celebrated with a special dinner, cake, and candles. Valentine's Day dinner was equally special, filled with love and appreciation for each other.
Spending time with my mom in Mexico was priceless. It was more than just a vacation; it was time together away from the changes, challenges, and crises, and an opportunity to explore and appreciate the country she loves so much, Mexico!
Stay tuned for the next stop in this celebration as our adventure continues to San Francisco, where we will celebrate with family and create even more unforgettable memories.
