Hello, fellow adventurers, changemakers, and music lovers!
Today, let’s dive into the grooves of our featured records, spin the latest CDs, and the wonderful world of music. As I pen these words, the crackling sound of a vinyl record from the '70s fills the room. Each song brings back memories, feelings, and emotions from my teenage years—listening to albums, attending concerts, and playing the tenor saxophone in my high school jazz band. 🎶💿🎷
Each record is a time capsule, capturing the essence of a decade known for its revolutionary tunes and free-spirited vibes. These records, with their rich, warm sounds, have been my faithful companions, narrating stories of the past as I wander through the trails on my journey from the present to the future.

Musical Moments from the 1970s
Close your eyes, listen, and imagine the sense of comfort that emanates from Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” offering solace and strength in times of trouble. Do you feel the rebellious energy of liberation capturing a generation in The Who’s “Who’s Next?” The soulful blues of B.B. King’s “Indianola Mississippi Seeds” stir a complex blend of emotions, weaving melancholy with the raw, heartfelt expression of lost love’s enduring ache. I love to listen over and over again to all the incredible songs from Fleetwood Mac “Rumours” with melodies that weave an emotional tapestry that speaks directly to the soul. 🎶💖

The Harmony of Movements 🎷
Throughout history, music has been the soundtrack to change. It has rallied people together, given voice to the voiceless, and been the drumbeat for revolutions. From the protest songs of the 60s to the anthems of modern-day movements, music has the power to ignite passion and drive societal transformation.
Let’s honor the iconic musicians whose melodies became the battle cries for equality, freedom, and justice. Their songs are not just notes and lyrics; they are the echoes of progress, the chorus of the brave.
Jazz and Blues in New Orleans: New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz, is a city that resonates with the soulful tunes of blues and the vibrant rhythms of jazz. Legendary venues like Preservation Hall and The Spotted Cat. Some of my favorites are Louis Armstrong, “Satchmo,” Charlie Parker, “Bird,” and Dizzy Gillespie.
Working Class Labor Movement Woody Guthrie is best known for his folk music and protest songs. that spoke to the struggles of working-class people. Pete Seeger, an American folk singer and social activist was known for his protest songs that spoke to the struggles of working-class people.
Music of the 1960s-70s Peace Movement: Music played a pivotal role in the powerful peace movement of the 1960s and 70s in America, largely in response to the Vietnam War and civil rights struggles with Joan Baez, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Bob Dylan's songs deal with social and political issues, “Blowin’ in the Wind,” and “The Times They Are a-Changin’.
21st Century Music Movement: Music continues to be a dynamic force, encompassing a wide array of genres that reflect the diversity of our society. From the raw energy of rap and hip-hop to the innovative sounds of digital music, artists are pushing boundaries and creating new sonic experiences. The music of today is as varied as it is vibrant, constantly evolving, and influencing culture around the globe.
During my Journey with Bernie, music inspired our movement's 2016 presidential campaign launch with Simon and Garfunkel's song, “America,” famous bands performing for Bernie at rallies and events, and revolutionary playlists at conventions, causes, and campaigns.
Stay tuned for our next adventure, where the soundtrack of our lives plays on, and the journey continues with every note. Until then, keep the music playing and let it move you in every sense of the word. 🚀🎼
